About Us

I’m Sarah, founder of Stitches, a growing haberdashery business specializing in dressmaking. I love sewing my own unique clothes, born out of a traumatic 00’s fashion faux pas involving a clash of outfits with a friend. I am also truly passionate about home sewing and textile craft skills being maintained for generations to come.
Stitches was launched in Cambridgeshire, July 2019. (if only I was Mystic Meg with COVID around the corner!) I had left my career in high street fashion buying for kidswear looking for a more fulfilling role closer to home. At the time fashion sustainability had become a focus in my day job and it occurred to me that I could play my own part in promoting slow fashion by passing on dressmaking skills to all who wanted to learn. So…. VOILA! Stitches was born.
Fast forward to September 2020 and all efforts to teach had withered with COVID lockdowns. However, after teaming up with a local haberdashery and textile learning centre, Bee Crafty in Ellington, I managed to navigate the post COVID lockdowns era of social distancing. We are back now thriving with many workshops, plus a pop up shop of dressmaking fabrics and patterns!
Now comes a new adventure for Stitches in 2025 as I move the business across the country to Wiltshire!
